It’s a very exciting time in the SEEDS ecosystem! For the past year and a half, we have been on a journey. The Currency Working Group has been exploring economics, the SEEDS Commons was created via a Citizen Milestone Proposal with the purpose of “Stewarding the health of the SEEDS ecosystem”, and now the SEEDS Collaboratory DAO has been launched, which will be the location where people will come together to take care of the ecosystem and the Citizens will be able to serve their governance role.
Many people have been contributing to this journey on all aspects of the ecosystem, and an important next phase is now beginning with the Collaboratory DAO. The Currency Working Group will evolve into the “Economics Circle” in the Collaboratory DAO, and the economics work will continue there.
One of the key focus areas of the Currency Working Group was the question of where do Seeds currency tokens get their value. Many different ideas were discussed, and there are many viewpoints. At the core, we know the intention of the SEEDS ecosystem is to stimulate actions that lead to regenerative impact, “co-creating a flourishing world together”. Thus, the currency design will connect the combined value of the tokens with the impact we are collectively creating in the SEEDS ecosystem.
Another key focus area of the Currency Working Group was exploring the process of deployment and communication. We learned many things from the initial deployment of Seeds into the world (via Campaign Proposals and Milestone Seeds). We learned that there is an amazing community of people all around the world that have been inspired by the SEEDS vision, and they hold deeply the desire to create impact and be part of the Regenerative Renaissance. Over 10 thousand people started participating! We came to see that additional tools were needed so communities could come together for purpose, with trust and care and a structure to create and measure impact. We began to see the importance of local currencies to support these communities and the benefits of DAOs to coordinate. These local currencies are becoming a foundational layer for SEEDS economics, and with the launching of the SEEDS Collaboratory DAO the journey is at a new beginning.
Everyone in the SEEDS ecosystem should be using the SEEDS Light Wallet now on their mobile phones as their primary wallet for working with Seeds, since the SEEDS Global Passport application is no longer being supported and will be replaced by the SEEDS Collaboratory DAO. In the Light Wallet, you are able to see your balance of Seeds, as well as your balance of Planted Seeds. Note, your balance of Harvest Seeds (also known as deferred Seeds) is not yet displayed in the Light Wallet.Co
The Nucleus of the Collaboratory DAO is an operational and implementation space for the SEEDS ecosystem, while the Community Donut is the governance space that is directed by Citizens. The initial structure for the Nucleus of the Collaboratory DAO has been designed to have three Councils (Constitutional, Stewardship, and Strategy) and three Circles (Governance, Economics, and Deployment). If you are (or you become) a Citizen, you will be able to join the DAO in the Community Donut and participate in governance, once the feature is available.
As the SEEDS Collaboratory DAO comes fully alive, the completion of the design of the SEEDS economics will take place in the “Economics Circle”, and once voted upon by the Citizens in the Community space of the DAO, the implementation will begin. This is indeed an exciting time in the SEEDS ecosystem. There is a lot more we will learn together, and we are happy you are part of the journey!
