Joseph Brewer is recognized by many as the roving ambassador of bioregionalism and as an expert on how the Earth is informing humanity regarding governance along natural systems, ie bioregions and watersheds. He is currently on a 14 stop tour of the CASCADIA bioregion along with one of its key leads, Brandon Letsinger. This is where recently SEEDS Collaboratory DAO members, Stephen Gomes and Charles Harrison met him. He is coming to speak to the SEEDS community. You will not want to miss that!

Joe has a unique background in physics, math, philosophy, atmospheric science, complexity, and cognitive linguistics. More than a decade ago, he left the academy to trail blaze a path for other practitioners to follow. Awakened to the threat of human-induced climate disruption while pursuing a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, he switched fields and began to work with scholars in the behavioral and cognitive sciences with the hope of helping create large-scale behavior change at the level of global civilization.
He was active with the Center for Complex Systems Research at the University of Illinois studying pattern formation in physical and social systems before joining renowned linguist, George Lakoff, at the Rockridge Institute in Berkeley to analyze political discourse and reveal the structures of meaning in human language.
When Rockridge closed 2008, Joe launched his first social enterprise—a research consultancy called Cognitive Policy Works whose mission was to apply insights from cognitive science to social change. It was here that he built up a global network of collaborators in the nonprofit, governmental, and social impact business domains.
From 2011 to 2017 he was research director at TheRules.org helping social movements as an expert in linguistic framing. He worked closely with Martin Kirk and Alnoor Ladha to coordinate with activists and movement leaders in the reframing of poverty, climate change, capitalism, and key issues around economic development.
In 2012 he joined Lazlo Karafiath to lay foundations for the new field of culture design, culminating in the birth of Culture2 Inc. Along the way, he has contributed to the formation of the International Centre for Earth Simulation—a globally-focused research foundation dedicated to the integration of more than 100 sciences that study the changing Earth.
In 2019, he joined Capital Institute to help manage community relations for the Regenerative Communities Network. The focus was to help create a planetary network of regenerative economies organized at bioregional scales.
In 2020 he founded Earth Regenerators and launched an initiative to regenerate 500,000 hectares of land in Barichara, Colombia while helping seed the formation of the Design School for Regenerating Earth that was established in 2023.
He has spoken at many global conferences on the science of social change and human dimensions of planetary sustainability. And has given workshops on three continents about the workings of the human mind and the strategic tools for designing and enacting positive change in the world.

we are appropriating the importance of SEEDS sin this program was started, we have seen more impact from the SEED community in our local villages, so I’m say let us continue with this community so that we improve many peole lives through SEEDS program.
